My son learning those “lovely” words on the bus.
Nothing good ever happens on the bus.
I finally let go and let my son ride the bus. I set the bus up so it stops in front of the house for pick up and drop off. Now I can stay in my pajamas, with my cup of coffee AND he gets to school in enough time to complete his morning work!
My son came in the other day dragging his feet.
“What’s wrong?”
“Miss Tina needs to talk to you.”
“What?” I look out and the bus is waiting there for me. Already I am intimidated. I walk out to the bus slowly, my son lagging behind me.
“Good afternoon.” I try to sound formal, afterall I am the same age as her mother.
“Wolfgang, I want you to tell your mother what you said on the bus.”
Aww Geez, what did he say now. My mind is flying around all the colorful words his father and grandfather likes to use.
“You’re not in trouble, I just want you to tell your mother.”
My son looks me straight in the eye and says, “I told Miss Tina that Nicholas hit me in the nuts.”
I quickly smother a laugh as I see Miss Tina smile. “We’ll have a discuss about this one.”
She closes the door and drives on, I’m pretty sure I can see her laughing in the front of the bus.
There are good words, bad words, potty words, and intelligible words. Trying to understand the difference between these words has sparked a spirited conversation between me and my children. At home, I sat Wolfgang down.
“Nuts is not an appropriate word.”
“Why not?”
Why not? Why not indeed? Older kids he knows call them nuts, maybe I think he even heard Daddy say the word. Nuts is one of those “do not ask, do not tell” words, don’t let them hear you say it.
“But that’s what they are.” He asks.
“Yes, it is. But you should say groin, not nuts.”
“What’s a groin?” I almost reply that it’s where your “nuts” are but just simply say, “it’s your private parts.”
