A short story of a man going through one of worst days of his life.
People say that bad days are good for you. They say that bad days prepare you for the worst days to follow. Sometimes people feel like that the bad days that they have is the worst day that they have been preparing for with all the other bad days. I think Brandon Links felt the same way on what he thought was the worst day of his life.
Brandon has a decent life, decent job, decent family, you would think that Brandon wouldn’t have anything to complain about, but the one thing that he always complains about is waking up early for work. His job pays well but his hours are most definitely random. See, Brandon is a computer maintenance manager. He has to make sure all of the networks, Internet connections, and computers operate properly. He never knows when he is needed at the office because the company relies on the computer system 24/7 so they can complete transactions and over see projects. If something happens to one of the computers or the system main frame, Brandon is called in immediately to fix the issue. Aside from maintaining the system he also works a normal shift at the same company as a project manager for the company. In his shift he checks out the projects that the company is either funding, creating, or participating in. Brandon is a very busy man and the company makes sure he stays that way.
It was a cold December morning at 2:30 A.M when he got a call from the office saying that the system had a malfunction. At this point was very mad that he had to wake up and go to the office that early. He drug himself out of bed put his clothes on started the car to go to work. As he attempted to turn the key to start his car the car started then suddenly jolted and shut off. Brandon obviously in an already semi-grouchy mood from waking up early instantly transformed into an irate frustration. Seeing that was the only car that he had, Brandon had no other choice to ask a neighbor for a ride. He knocked on one of the doors and his normally friendly neighbor answered the door with a disgruntled and confused look on his face. As Brandon explained to his neighbor that he needed a ride the neighbor quickly became furious and refused to give him a ride so he just threw his car keys to Brandon and went back to bed. Brandon, obviously shocked and hurt that his neighbor reacted this way, tried to stay calm in spite of being twenty minutes late already to work. He started driving down the road moving fairly quickly which can be expected since he was already late. He continued to drive down the narrow back roads when something caught the corner of his eye then suddenly a deer jumped right out in front of his car. The deer slid over the car and cracked the windshield along with busting out the headlight. Brandon stopped and looked back and as he saw the deer just laying there on the road he had thoughts of seeing if the deer was ok but he just continued to drive to work. Brandon was furious because of the damage he caused to the car and he was also afraid of his neighbor’s reaction to the damage of his car.
