You never know when your next kiss will be your last.

“Hello?”

“Hi, is this Kim?”

“Yes it is. May i ask whose calling?”

“Yes, this is Anne calling from Renown Intensive Care Unit.”

“Is everything OK? Whose hurt?”

“I have a patient that just got care-flighted in by the name of Braydon Hansen”

“Is he OK?!”

“I’m afraid he’s been in a car accident. I don’t have any further details besides you’ve been requested to be here”

“OK thank you! I’ll be there as soon as i can.”

Before i cold hangup the phone i had already grabbed my keys, and running to my truck. I had met Braydon on the Mackey’s ranch that my dad lived on with them. That’s when my life changed forever. He had pulled through an overdose, and that was when I pushed it was to far for him. I had said the three words that could either make it or break it. It seemed like it had made things easier so far.

I ran into the ICU and skid to a stop at the information desk. The lady must have known who i was because she handed me a clipboard with Braydon’s information that needed to be further filled out. I had known everything that needed to be filled out. She then took the clipboard back entered some information then led me back to his room. When i walked in i had an even bigger shock. He was sitting in the bed with a couple of scrapes and bruises.

“Are you OK? What happened?” I asked when the nurse left.

“I’m fine I don’t remember what exactly happened. I was driving down the dirt road heading to school, then  woke up and my jeep was destroyed.” he said in pure honesty.

“You blacked out behind the wheel? How many pain killers had you taken?”

“I hadn’t had any until I got in here. I was going to toughen it out.”

That was the problem with cowboys. They don’t know when to stop and when to go.  He had almost been killed because of blacking out and rolling his jeep. I had been an hour away of a drive from where he had crashed. It had only been a couple months before meeting Brayden that my brother had rolled his ford ranger. He was trying to avoid a deadly crash due to some guys in their early twenties drinking. Thinking about almost losing my brother made me thankful they both survived.
