Sadly, the seven year old child was found deceased. How long will we tolerate this?

As most of us have heard or read by now, Summer Thompson ( the missing seven year old), was the victim of foul play. Her little body was found in a Georgia landfill fifty miles away from where she went missing in Orange Park, Florida.

Summer was walking home from school on Monday afternoon and was separated from her friends and twin brother for just a few moments when she was abducted and later murdered. The who, why and where have not been established as of yet, but I have a feeling that they will be…soon.

What could be worse than knowing that your child was taken by a stranger, most likely abused and than murdered and left for trash? How can any parent live with the knowledge that they will never see their precious child again; watch her grow up or hear the sound of her laughter? How can any parent stand to out-live their child? I know that it would be the worst thing I could ever think of and I wonder if I could survive it.

The problem is,  as I wrote earlier, this is no longer an uncommon story nor is it any less shocking and horrifying than if it was an occasional occurrence. The real horror here is that this story keeps repeating itself week after week all over our country. The death of this beautiful, innocent child has become the norm.

There have been many theories postulated by various experts in both law enforcement and the medical field; none of them have been put into play to prevent this type of horror from happening again and again.

It’s time for action…..not just words but deeds. It’s time for all of us to write our legislators and demand that they enact laws that put these predators behind bars for life without the possibility of parole. No more early release as is the case in North Carolina where rapists and murderers are being released because of some antiquated legal loophole in the law of that state that allows for these dangerous preditors to be freed for time served and good behavior. Speaking of “good behavior”, many of the North Carolina criminals behaved very badly while behind bars and at least one of them killed someone while serving time. If that is the definition of “Good behavior” I am at a total loss for words.

Something has to change….NOW. It is inevitable that the ACLU will step in to protest that we are treading on the Constitutional rights of pedophiles, rapists and murderers and the politically correct among us will yell loud and often about justice not being served. Too bad…too damn bad.

I would rather see the life of one child saved than worry about the Constitutional rights of an individual who has given up any right to be treated with decency and fairness. How many more kids have to die. Yes, there will always be the right to a fair trial with a jury of your peers. There will always be the right to retain a lawyer and against self-incrimination. Those rights will never change. What must change are some of the current, ridiculous  sentencing guidlines  for any sexual predator and any murderer or the right to be released at any time after they are tried, convicted and proven to be guilty of a heinous crime such as the murder of a child or the rape of any individual. When will the justice system learn that pedophiles cannot be cured and that they will re-offend. How many studies and examples of this re-occurring behavior will be necessary before the truth is faced and dealt with?

These enemies of humanity must be put away for good or given the death penalty. That is the only way to stem the tide of murders. It is the only way for our children to be safe again in a nation that once stood for freedom and now stands for fear and dread.
