I was walking down the third block of the five I usually take to school…
I reach into my backpack and pull out the orb. It wasn’t glowing so it didn’t attract anyone’s attention. There was a mist inside which was changing colors. I assumed that it was a crystal ball and that the people in the truck stole it from somebody’s house. They were probably pretending to be movers. Anyway, the orb was covered with little symmetrical indents. The felt like triangles, or upside-down pyramids. It was obviously made of either glass or crystal.
“Nick what are you doing,” said Mr. Knock.
“Nothing, just trying to find paper.”
“Well you’re obviously not prepared for class, are you?”
“No sir”
“Well, you’ll just have to spend an hour after school won’t you”
“But I… I mean I…I really meant to…ok.”
I put the orb away and copied down the notes. During recess I went to the janitors closet, which is always unlocked, and examined the globe. I ran my finger across its smooth grooves. I then noticed that there was a section of the globe that wasn’t grooved. As I touched this part it went in a little. I pushed it down as far as it could go, and waited for four or five seconds before realizing that it must not do anything. Then the orb started shaking violently. I flinched and dropped it. Thank god the blinds for the window on the door were down because the orb let out a huge glowing light that changed colors just like the mist. Then it suddenly stopped and there was a noise that sounded like a ball being sucked into a vacuum cleaner. It all stopped, right there and then. I walked out of the janitors closet and to my locker. I walked to English class, pondering about my experience.
In English class my teacher was talking about the difference between verbs and helping verbs. Then he said the strangest thing.
“Today’s Friday, and every body knows what that means.”
Everybody groaned.
“That’s right, vocab quiz day.”
Everybody groaned again. I looked at my watch. It said Friday, 1:20 PM. It must be wrong.
When I got home there was blueberry pie on the counter. It was from Mrs. Woodberry.
It was Friday, and I had traveled exactly 24 hours in time. That was time I had been thinking about when the orb went off. It was magical and I could travel in time. I started waling up the steps to my room when I tripped over my dogs chew toy. The orb went flying. It smashed on the vinyl steps. I stared at the pace it smashed. I didn’t notice the cuts or pieces of glass on or in my face. I gust kept on staring.
Three hours later, just before bed I realized it. I had missed both detentions and I have to face Mr. Knock tomorrow. What will I do? The green flash went off again. I was in awe as the pieces started to float and then form a shape. It was a face, and it talked.
“I am Mushufasa,” It said in a deep voice.
My jaw dropped.
“Thank you for freeing me.”
I nodded.
“I will grant you three wishes.”
“Who are you,” I said.
“I already told you, I am Mu…shu…. fasa.”
“Ok ok,” I said. “Three wishes eh.”
“Yeh, three wishes, take em, or leave em.”
“Ok, I’ll take em”
To be continued…
