A short piece offering some handy tips for Pancake Day!
Now is your chance to put on all that weight you’ve lost since your New Years resolution began… Pancake Day! Tuesday 16th February 2010 is Pancake Day, and as I write this, it is tomorrow. All you need is eggs, flour, milk and a tolerance for unholy mess and you can join in the fun! If you have kids it’s all the more fun because every kid I’ve ever known gets terribly excited at the thought of stuffing their faces with anything sweet, and with syrup and brown sugar to go with the pancakes, no one can resist.
Flipping the pancake is always the highlight of the day, especially if Mum drops it, Dad gets it stuck on the ceiling or it accidentally gets flipped into Granddad’s hairpiece without him even waking up! But take a tip from the Parks family’s expert pancake flipper… Keep your eye on the pancake! All those times you rolled your eyes in gym class wondering: “where will this ever get me in life”, when really it was all a big set up for Pancake Day when you were finally allowed to flip it for the very first time!
Another tip if you’re trying to lose weight, obviously there is always an opportunity to use low or zero fat milk in your pancakes, but another great tip is to avoid the syrup and brown sugar and simply opt for fresh lemon juice instead as the acids in lemon juice aid your digestion.
However, if you’re not trying to lose weight, or simply having a break for the day then go nuts! I advise syrup, then brown sugar, then lemon juice all rolled up in a pancake… Yum! And the best piece of advice I have is… you can never have too much butter!
