Do you?
Every now and then I think about what kind of person I am. I think as to whether or not I do my part in this large world and if when it comes down to it, does it even really matter or make a difference?
The other day, I ran to Starbucks on my break and was in a really big rush to get back to my office. A man yelled at me and rushed over as I turned around. He explained to me that he was sorry to bother me but his car had ran out of gas and he wanted to know if I had some money to spare. I honestly can say that I never carry cash around with me so I apologized.
He looked a bit disappointed and embarassed. I remembered as I turned around that I had some left over money on some gas cards that I had won at work a few weeks ago. I knew one of them had about $20.00 dollars on it and told him to hold on a second. I handed him the card and told him to have a good day. He immediately started to run towards where I assumed his car was.
Now, this was a small gesture on my behalf. Who is to say that he really did or did not run out of gas, but I must say that it did feel good to pay it forward. I went up the elevator to my office hoping that he would return the favor to someone else and pay it forward.
Small little things like this really make a difference in my mind. It is something that maybe someone won’t think anything big about, but it really does make the world go round. A kind favor can mean the world to someone else. I would really like to hope that simple things I do everyday, like making sure to thank my barista or smiling at a walking by stranger makes that persons day just a little bit better.
I am not sure if everyone else is on the same page as me, but I just find it makes life a little more enjoyable. Hopefully when someone ends up doing something nice for me, I will know it is just coming back to me because that is the kind of vibe I have put out. Sorry for the rambling on….I just had to express my little opinion on paying it forward.
