Over the years of my working career, I have noticed a lot of amusing sayings and events that have bought my colleagues and myself a lot of laughter, although television shows events such as these, these days, my friends and I often recollect the most funny happenings from the past.
As an apprentice, at an agricultural engineering firm, which made hop picking machines, I was one who would fall for the practical jokes. the first was on my first day at work when, Sam (to whom I was assisting told me to go to the stores and ask for the big weight, so off I went but did not realise it was Bob, Sam’s brother behind the counter,
“Yes can I help you?” asked Bob.
“Your Brother Sam asked me to come to you and ask for the big weight”, I replied.
” You’re his new apprentice aren’t you?”
“Yes I am.” I said proudly, now although inside feeling a bit vulnerable.
“I’m Bob, his brother, hang on I’ll be back”.
So I waited and waited until the foreman turned up, saying “What are you after Tim? You have been
hanging around these stores for over ten minutes now, we come hear to work, well……”
“Oh Sam sent me for the big……”
” Don’t tell me you fell for the big weight joke ….did you?” he replied with little surprise.
“Get back to work Tim and watch out, that won’t be the last of those pranks”. The foreman said then went into the stores and laughing said to Bob, “You flipping Ape, you and your brother always catch them on that one. Here’s the pound, go and buy some peanuts, now what else have you on the agenda?”
