The story goes that whoever eradicated the rat infested city would be rewarded handsomely. But was paid a paltry remuneration. Why did it happen?

The citizens of Hamelin were so harassed with rats multiplying astronomically,  that they desperately announced for a handsome reward of fifty thousand guilders though the piper asked only for thousand guilders.

By the way why did they agree to pay fifty times of what the piper asked for. They had imagined him chasing very single rat and killing it or do something really physically demanding so as to catch them who outnumbered the number of people in the town of Hamelin. They opined it was worth the physical effort, something which they had failed at.

When the witty piper started playing melodious tunes the rodents followed him mesmerised by his playing the pipe, and perished in the River Weser. The unpleasantly surprised mayors felt ” Ah! what did he do after all? He just played his pipe and river perished them! There was no effort by the piper! What is the point in paying him so much for something he hasn’t slogged for? A fifty guilders will easily do.”

Unfortunately this is how people especially managers think. Give them a simple solution they don’t like to appreciate it. Just make it seem to the like a monstrous task they are all praises.

However these managers or the mayors forgot a smart man like Pied Piper also would do good to teach them a lesson if he did not get his due. That’s what Pied piper did and this time on the children in Hamelin.

So managers be careful next time you do not know how to acknowledge some body’s work

When solving a problem  KISS- keep it simple and stupid and others better accept it and appreciate the solution than with what difficiculty it was solved.
