Please be quiet in the library…

…Or you’ll disturb the person who’s trying to read. He might get angry and tell the librarian. You might have to leave the library. She might even take away your library card.

If you are quiet in the library, the person who’s trying to read will be very happy with you. I’m you ask him, I’m sure he’ll be happy to share his story with you. He might even ask you to join his book club.

Please be quiet in the library…

…Or the decorative statues might have to come to life and tell you to be quiet. This would probably scare some little children. They might start crying. Then it would be really loud in the library!

If you are quiet in the library, the statues will be happy and they’ll stay frozen like they’re supposed to. The little children will be happy to because they won’t be scared at all. The library will be very peaceful.

…Or you might upset the books. They would all fall on the floor. You’d have a big mess to clean up! You’d have to stay at the library for a really long time… probably for the rest of the month, at least! This wouldn’t be a bad thing if you could read while you were there, but you wouldn’t be allowed to read. You’d be too busy cleaning.

If you are quiet in the library, the books won’t get upset and they’ll stay on the shelves where they belong. You won’t have to clean anything up and you can leave the shelving to the librarian’s assistant.

…Or you’ll wake up all the monsters and all the villains from the scary book section of the library. Then the library will be very chaotic and innocent people might get hurt!

If you are quiet in the library, the monsters and villains will stay in the books and the heroes and good guys will defeat them like they’re supposed to!

…Or the librarian will be very sad. She might think you don’t like her because you’re not following her directions and she might quit her job. Then there wouldn’t be a librarian!

If you are quiet in the library, the librarian will be very happy with you! Because she knows you respect her, she will want to be your friend!
