Danny is an abused child, who can help him out of this situation?
Please Help Me!
Danny drew the covers up over him to shut out the sounds of the voices shouting. He wished he was anywhere else other than here, and he wished so hard that his dad had not left home. Since his mother had moved her boyfriend in, her life had gone out of control, and Danny didn’t even feel she loved him any more.
Once he had been close to mum, they had shared hugs and happy times together, and dad too, but he never even saw him now. Mum and her boyfriend were always drunk, always arguing, and he had seen them snorting cocaine too.
Although Danny was only 11, he knew about drugs, they had been told about it at school, and the harm it could do, and he could see his mum destroying her own life, and he didn’t understand why. It’s true she had lost her job, and now relied on support from the state, but this hateful Joe was in the same boat, he didn’t work, just sat around all day smoking and drinking.
Danny knew how much Joe hated him, he was the thorn in the flesh, and he now felt superfluous in his mother’s life. They went out and left him, not that he minded that, but when they came in, and Joe was drunk, he would think of any reason to hit Danny, or bully him, and he had bruises and a black eye to prove it. But what upset him most of all was not the physical pain, it was the way his mother just stood back and let it happen.
Danny would have starved if he had relied on them, but at 11 he could get himself something to eat, well that is when there was any food in the house. The house was dirty and uncared for, his clothes were not washed unless he did them in the washing machine, and his best friend Paul had taken pity on him , and asked his Mum to give him extra sandwiches.
Danny had confided in Paul, and only Paul, and although Paul’s mum was very sympathetic, she had 4 children of her own, and just didn’t have room to take in any more. Danny didn’t know who to turn to, or where to go, but as he once again heard the unsteady step of Joe on the stairs, he knew he would have to get help soon before this bully did him some serious damage, and maybe even his mother too. His life was in crisis, and he wept with fear, and wondered why this was happening to him
