They are promised to one another.
She looks up at him, her dark brown eyes full of hurt and anger. The young woman before him looked so heartbroken, so furious…so beautiful. Hwang’s heart weeped, weeped for the the sorrow he was causing her. He never intended to hurt her, his guilt consuming him.
Hwang had joined Joseon’s Coastal Defense Force, choosing duty and honor for his country over his beloved Mina, the woman he loved. Joseon was on the brink of war. For Hwang, duty came first. He loved his people and his homeland. His late parents had taught him loyalty and piety, to help and defend others, to help your fellow man. He was honoring his parents, his people, his country. But it has not been easy. He knew sacrifices have to be made, and not just him. He just never thought that he would be sacrificing the most precious thing in the world to him. Leaving Mina was something he never wanted to do. He wished he could make all her sorrows go away, make her sadness disappear. He needed to see her radiant smile again; to hear her lyrical laughter, before he left.
Tears streamed down Mina’s face. She could not believe Hwang was leaving her. Her Hwang! She never knew she could feel such pain, feel such anger. How could he do this to her! she thought. He was breaking their promise, their promise to each other. She started to shake, shaking with great anguish and heartache. Hwang wraps his muscular arms around her, holding her, trying to comfort her. She pounds him with her tiny fists, angry at him for doing this to her. Hwang continues to hold her, taking her beating, taking all her anger and sorrow.
“I am so sorry Mina… So sorry…”
Mina cries in earnest now, her fists subsiding. She clings to him, needing his warmth, needing his strength. She needed to feel him, to remember his touch. Hwang kisses her face, tasting her bitter tears. Mina suddenly moans, the warm pressure of his body igniting fierce desire within her. He slowly, gently lowers her to the floor. Soon, clothing is torn off; their hands exploring, their bodies entwining, tears still falling. Eventually, they lie still, their bodies still entwined with one another, their gaze upon each other.
Hwang held her delicate face in his hands, wet with tears, her long lashes fluttering like a frightened and heartbroken butterfly. Mina was so fragile, yet so strong. It was one of the things about her that he found so fascinating, so irresistible. He admired her so…He loved her so.
“I am so sorry Mina,” his voice breaking, full of regret. “Could you ever forgive me?”
Mina looks at his handsome face, so full of love and sorrow. Oh how she love him! No other man could make her feel the way he did.
“I do not know who I am without you, Hwang.” she replies tearfully. “All I know is that I love you. And I cannot live without you.”
Hwang kisses her, hard, expressing his intense love and need for her.
“I do not know what I am going to do without you!” she cries, clinging to him.
“You are strong, my Mina. You are a fighter, someone who never gives up. I know you will endure.” He strokes her hair, whispering softly to her. “I will comeback to you, my Mina, for we are practically promised.”
Mina touches his face. “Yes, my Hwang. We are practically promised. We are… promised.”
His lips consume hers, drowning her; drowning in their love; drowning in each other. This is their promise… their promise to one another. For they are practically promised.
