Getting ready for baby.

Lucus had been watching Carol more closely lately. After the morning sickness passed, she had been full of energy.  She was six and a half months along now and she didn’t look well. She was awful pale and she tired easy. He knew that it wasn’t just her being pregnant that was causing this, but she never complained. She cooked, cleaned and worked in her flower garden. She had planted some vegetables also and had canned some of them. He just couldn’t put his finger on what was going on with her.

Carol could feel Lucus watching her. It made her uncomfortable. She knew she was a mess, had dirt on her cheek from being out working with her flowers, there was dirt on her clothes to but at this minute, she didn’t care. She was hot and tired and needed to shower. She proceeded through the house,  showering was just what she was going to do.

When Carol came back to the kitchen, Lucus was gone. She started dinner, then propped against the cabinet. Standing there she got lost in thought. She wondered why Lucusnever tells her that he loves her, now that she thought about it he hasn’t said the words to her at all. Has he? she thought. No, he hasn’t. A frown comes to her mouth. Why is that? He mentioned that her cares for her, but is that love? She guessed it could be but why wouldn’t he just say he loves her instead of he cares for her?  The back door closing brought her back to the task of finishing dinner.

Carol mostly just pushed her food around on her plate and Lucus noticed. ‘Aren’t you going to eat?’ he asked. ‘I’mreally not hungry.’ she told him. She got up and took her plate back to the kitchen leaving Lucus to eat his meal by himself.

Time was getting near for the baby to be born. Lucus was a nervous wreck. He was sure that was what was wrong with Carol too. Although she stayed busy, she wasn’t sleeping much at night and hardly eat at meal times. She had lost some weight, the doctor had talked to them about that at her last visit. Telling her she had to eat, she would be needing  her strength to have this baby. All she said was, that she was fine.

Carol had the baby’s room ready. Everything that she could possibly need was in the room, right down to newborn diapers. They hadn’t asked if it was a boy or girl, so she had done the room in soft yellow. She was looking at the rain out the window when the first pain hit.

Lucus wanted to break speed limits to get her to the hospital, but he also knew that all he would accomplice by doing so would be to scare Carol. But of course from the look of the pain she was in, he didn’t think that she would even notice. He had to get her to the hospital fast, he didn’t like the way she looked and her breathing sounded labored. Out of the blue she passed out. Now Lucus did break the speed limit. He didn’t care if he got a ticket, he didn’t care if he got four. He had to get her help and he had to get it now.
