This story is based on two young girls who grew up in a boarding house, but they overcame their struggle.
Stacey an Georgia were busy playing dress up with the trunk ofclothing they had found in the basement. They were twelve years old and were out of school for spring break. Finding those old clothes were the highlight of their week. They were two of the youngest children living in the house. There was a total of ten children there, altogether.
The house seemed scary to them at times, because it was so big and had so many rooms. Ms. Graymar and her assistant, Mae ran the house and raised the children. After the children turned eighteen years of age they were to go out on their own, ready or not.
Stacey and Georgia met here when they were ten years old and became sisters. The children were far from being spoiled here. They never had designer clothes or shoes, but they were dressed. They all went to school and came home to chores. Most of them couldn’t wait to turn eighteen and get out on their own.
Mae noticed the girls were wearing those clothes out of the trunk, but did not mention it to Ms.Graymar because she knew that the children longed for new clothes. They just mixed their old clothes in with the new ones from the trunk.
The children took care of the farm animals, they had chickens, goats, cows and two horses. There was also a cat and two chows on the premises. The children didn’t complain about it, they were just grateful to have a place to call home for a while.
Ms. Graymar did care for the children in her own way. When one of them turned sixteen, they would receive a cake and some ice cream to celebrate their special day.
These two girls were inquisitive and loved investigating on the grounds. For instance, they saw an ant bed one day and decided to dig down in it to see exactly what the ants were doing. They also loved to read, so Mae would take them to the library every saturday afternoon, after they finished their chores, of course.
Stacey and Georgia had found some interesting looking coins and stones to collect. They hid their treasure inside of a hollow tree and inspected it every other day to make sure nothing was missing. Charlie, who was the oldest child living there now, had followed them one day and saw them with their collection. He just laughed at them and walked away. They started to throw them away, but then thought about it and put them back into the tree.
At the library one day Georgia was looking through a book about rare coins and saw one of theirs. She checked the book out and they ran to their stash to check it out. They didn’t know what to do at this point, but they did promise each other that they wouldn’t tell anybody about their treasure.
The girls did confide in Charlie and he advised them to just hold on to it and not say anything about it until they moved out of the big house. They believed him and took his advice.
After the girls turned eighteen and moved out into their own apartment they decided to go and talk to a coin collector. They could not believe it, their coins were worth over five million dollars. They hugged each other and cried for about thirty minutes.
These young women received their check and lived happily ever after……
