The journey of a leaf into the afterlife and how it accepts and copes with its own death.
ReCycle
They say that nothing exists without a reason, yet there I am.
drifting, slowly, a falling leaf
And as I fall, I see my life before me
the sad, the joy, the essence of my being
A gust of wind cradles me haplessly, no destination in sight
I shift and I sway, an unforeseen blunder
And while this is all happening, my mind enters chaos
“Is this how it is? Am I just a falling leaf?”
My tree grows farther and farther away, where am I heading?
A whisper is heard in the back of my mind. it says, “Who are you?”
My answer is clear: “I am a falling leaf, a forgotten memory of what once was alive”
“No. Only when a leaf has died do its true colors show. What color are you?”
“What color am I?” I ask myself, I look at myself.
“I have no color.”
“Your color is not what you can see, or what others see. It is “you”. Who are “you”?”
“I am myself. The existence that is me. I exist for no other reason.”
The voice does not reply. I wait for a response, but none is heard.
“Why do I exist?”
“That is for you to discover. A leaf does not live just to die.”
“But why do I die if it means nothing to even be alive?”
“The only death that exists is the death of your entity. Your presence still lingers thereafter. Proof of your existence.”
I fall now much slower.
“I have no color, yet I am myself, now the death of a leaf. I can not see my color because my color is me.”
“You are the color of yourself. Your color is “you”. “
My falling now stops. My whole world stands still.
“Am I destined to be nothing more than the memory of myself?”
“No. You will return to the earth. Again you are reborn. An endless cycle that recreates who you are.”
In this moment. I realize that all the chaos in my mind has disappeared. The tantrum is over.
“I am a leaf. An existence that is me. The “me” I have chosen. The life I have chosen. My death is now complete.”
