A glass splinter fell out of the broken window and pegged his palm onto the wooden frame.

“Damn, that is all I need now,” he muttered under his breath.

“What did you say?”

“Nothing, I cut myself on the glass.”

“Let’s just get inside and do the job,” was the whispered reply.

Joe tugged the shard out and dropped it on the dew coated grass. His blood soaked glove glistened black in the moonlight as he leaned in and moved the blinds aside hoping that the noise would not wake any of the house occupants.

They had not seen any dogs in the yard and the house had no visible alarms or burglar bars. These factors had made it their house of choice plus the brand new Mercedes Benz in the driveway.

It was exactly what Jimmy had ordered. A black SLK with red leather seats and a sunroof.

Cash was short so they decided to make a bit more profit by breaking into the house and collecting some other luxuries.

“Hurry up,” Sipho said as Joe battled to climb through the window. Joe moved slower than him but he was a quick thinker when the situation demanded.

“Check out the lounge and I will go upstairs to the master bedroom,” he whispered to Sipho.

A lava lamp glowed in a corner casting a red hue on an animistic shrine. A huge LCD TV took up central position on the ornately carved wooden entertainment centre alongside a state of the art audio system.

“Struck the mother lode here,” Sipho thought. “Well worth the risk and effort. This little haul will pay for next week’s food and booze plus that new hooker at The Ranch.”

His feet sank into the soft carpet as he walked past the black leather couch towards the dining room table. He removed the large tablecloth to put the goods on.

He had the strangest sensation of being watched as he cut the wires to the TV and sound system. Sipho slowly turned around and looked at the lava lamp. The orbs continued to take form and rise up the glass. As he turned away, he saw a flicker near the shrine. He watched, waited but he saw nothing.
