NASA is developing a new robot called Robonaut which will go into space with the six human crew.
Into Outer Space comes Earth’s first humanoid known as Robonaut2, known as R2. He will be going on the Space Shuttle Discovery in its 39th mission.
This Robot could eventually do many tasks in space. It could become a maid and clean the Space Station and could handle emergencies.
The robonaut’s future relatives may discover asteroids and other worlds that humans are unaware of.
The Robonaut is huge. Even though it is only 3 feet 4 inches tall, it weighs 330 pounds it has an upper body. It has palms on a toned armed. Each arm is 2ft 8 inches long.
Robonaut has a gold head with eyes. Behind Robonauts are four visible light cameras. Its brain is in its abdomen and is computerized.
It has a backpack from where the humans in the Space Station can plug him in and batteries if it is outside the space station.
Robonaut has 350 electric sensors that are placed throughout its body, R2 can feel a feather on its fingertips. It also has springs in its joints.
R2 is packed in a box, ready for liftoff. Its twin in looks only is at the Kennedy Space Center. He is waiting for liftoff and posing for pictures. The Robonaut in the box will stay there until late December.
Right now, Robonaut can’t handle tasks because it has no legs. Legs are expected in late 2011, and some computer enhancements that will allow the robot to make space walks.
