A woman discovers that looking at the bright side of life isn’t always possible, and looses her optimistic view of things forever.

All of her life, she’s been told that she viewed the world through rose colored glasses, which is probably true, but she doesn‘t know that it is really such a bad thing.  You see, those glasses are what enable her to always see a positive side of things, even when life really sucks.   While she agrees that the glass can’t always be half full, and you almost never get to have your cake and eat it, too, there is something to be said for looking on the bright side.  Her husband always tells her to take the glasses off and face her trials, to deal with her tribulations, and sometimes he just plain backs her into a corner and forces her to open her eyes and take a good, hard look at life without them, knocking those suckers right off of her face with a harsh slap of reality.  What he doesn’t seem to understand, is that if you knock them off enough times, eventually they are going to break.

They have broken before, when her first marriage turned out to be a total disaster, and she was left alone with two kids and no place to live.  Then he came along and helped her to put on a new pair, convincing her that there was still hope.  This pair has had its share of cracks and scratches over the years.  They were scratched when her daughters turned away from her, and they cracked a bit when their home caught on fire, leaving them living in an RV and forcing them into bankruptcy.   They became dented and sat askew on her face when one son’s life was stolen from him by an unfair justice system, that doesn’t know the meaning of justice, and they cracked a little more, when one of the daughters that had returned to her, walked away from her forever.

Now, with another son trying hard to throw his life away and assure that she will not ever have him in her life again, and a job that was once a labor of love has turned into just a labor, one that she dreads going to, each and every time she is scheduled to work.  Before they could crumble to dust, she tried to alleviate the situation by seeking out a new path via a dream that she once had and then lost.
In pursuit of this dream, she discovered that the same man that once helped to put on a new pair of rose colored glasses, has lost faith in her, and no longer supports her in her pursuit of her dream; the one thing that she had always thought that she could count on, was no longer there for her to believe in and her glasses shattered into a billion pieces.
