Old flames die hard and Roxanne knows all about it. Although controlling and chauvinistic, Carlo is home to her heart and passion. And Carlo too, will not be able to wash Roxanne completely from his system any time soon. A son is not all that these two share. The likeness of love and stubbornness between them has linked these two once and may even be responsible for pulling them apart, but is it enough to unite them once again one day…
Before I ripped out the front door, decided I’d call Trinity but, when I yanked up the phone their was no dial tone.
“Hello?” I was confused, calling into the dead air expecting to get no answer.
But the other end was was home to a smooth, sexy voice calling my name, “Roxanne.”
“Yes?”
“It’s me, Carlo.”
Took a glance at the clock before asking, “What the hell are you calling for so late, Is Zyon okay?”
“Yeah, he’s fine.”
“Okay so?”
“Oh boy, Roxanne,” his laugh was hearty, revealing a hint of wheezing in his lungs, “I need a reason to call you all of a sudden?”
“Carlo,” I started and then stopped, “Nevermind. What’s up Carlo?”
“I miss you, just thought I’d say hello. You didn’t call back the other night and Zyon was asking for you earlier.”
“So why didn’t you call me back?”
“We got busy and he forgot. I’m just remembering now.”
“How could my baby forget about me?”
“Oh nothing personal. In a seven-year-old world, everyone gets kicked to the curb for Spiderman.”
I smiled and said, “Very true.”
“So,” he began, “I’m surprised to catch you on the house phone at this time of night.”
“And I’m surprised you’re allowed to make phone calls at this time of night at all.”
“Oh Roxanne, don’t start.”
“Not starting anything.”
“Yeah well, as you can clearly see, I’m allowed to make calls past ten, thank you and let’s leave it at that.”
“No problem Carlo,” I took a deep breath to maintain the small amount of sanity left in me, “So what’s up?”
“Damn, are you rushing me off?”
“Well I was on my way out of the house actually.”
“Oh okay,” he wasted no time, “Go ahead then, I just wanted to shout you out.”
I held onto the phone not sure if I wanted to let it go, not sure of what I should’ve said next, and at that moment he chimed in with his baritone voice, “I still love you, Roxanne. I always will.”
