In the near future the Federal Government has come up with a new penalty to use against certain crimes that replaces the old fashioned death penalty in every state accept Texas. This is a tale about one guy in court who receives it.

Semi DEath Penalty Trial

The semi death penalty trial was just beginning in an old court house. Mark Potts sat nervously in the whiteness stand while the judge read him his rights and then proceeded into the charges brought against him. “Mr. Potts the state of New Mexico no longer allows people like yourself to lag along in the dark ages by refusing to purchase the latest PC operating system. We have evidence that your home desk top is still operating with Windows 3.1 and that is against the law. That’s why you have been charged with ignorant PC operation. This new law is going to help New Mexico catch up with the rest of our country. It will no longer be held back by citizens who refuse to modernize properly.”

Semi Death Penalty Prisoner

The semi death penalty prisoner lost control. Mark raised his arms and said, “Your honor why is it against the law to stick with what ever operating system one feels is best for them? My computer programing experience has led me into believing the old fashioned simple systems are better because I can do things on my own without having to rely on all kinds of expensive new tools. The fancier things have gotten the less freedom user have. They are all becoming so dependent on the software upgrades that programming companies can continuously work that system to make millions of dollars.”

Semi Death Penalty Court

The semi death penalty court regulations were strictly upheld. That made the judge scowl at Mark and then say, “Mr. Potts unfortunately you are like that minority of folk who still believe in physiological freedom in a time when the world depends so strongly on computers just to survive. We at least have a high enough percentage of Earth’s population to force you cave men to follow our example. The prosecution has brought into court your old Packard Bell computer and that evidence shows how you have truly broken the law as you are charged with.”

Semi Death Penalty Regulations

The semi death penalty regulations did not completely control the man on trial. Mark stood up and interrupted the judge, “Your honor anyone could have planted that into my bedroom and stuck whatever software that is against the law to use on the hard drive. I got a pair of cleaning gloves in the kitchen and that PC surely doesn’t have my finger prints on it.”

Semi Death Penalty Feeling

A semi death penalty feeling of humor took hold upon the judge. He chuckled and said, “Mr. Potts the lie detector test we now use enabled us to learn exactly how you use a PC and our new evidence evaluation software was run on this desk top. It told us you had been the only user of the PC for years. It all was enough to find you guilty. Sit back down like a civilized individual. I’m going to read you your penalty.”

Semi Death Penalty Strictness

Semi death penalty strictness had to be implemented. Mark frowned as he looked back at the judge and clinched both his fists. That made the Union County Deputy Sheriff come up behind him and force Mark to sit back down. He then said, “You honor please show some mercy and don’t sentence me like they would in Texas for some crime like murder.”

Semi Death Penalty Punishment

That made the semi death penalty punishment get explained. The judge sternly looked at Mark and said, “Mr. Potts there is a new form of punishment that has replaced the death penalty in many cases. It was originally thought up by a scientist who believed killing individuals for some primitive action dated back in time to the dark ages. He came out with this penalty. Mr. Potts you have earned it. The state of New Mexico has sentenced you with the semi-death penalty. Now you will have this tiny PC inserted into your skull and it will monitor your thoughts and dictate your actions as the world sees best. Your crime breaking personality will now be dead.
