Shapes of Stories by Magic Quill
· Amoeba – This story is shapeless and boring, not going anywhere. It is stagnant and does not keep the reader’s interest.
· Stickleback -This story darts in all different directions, wandering without purpose. Things are happening too fast, or there is too much going on that the reader becomes confused.
· Windmill – Goes on and on with interlocking loops. It has a good rhythm and style.
· Carousel – This story ends where it started, maybe by using flashback or a conclusion that ties in with the beginning of the story.
· Crescendo – This is the classic shape for a story. The plot is crafted to lead up to a climax.
· Fire thrower – The character action and dialogue are kept up in the air. The reader is kept in suspense.
· Tree rings – The reader counts the rings to get to the heart of the story.
