A short story about Jim, a 14 year old kid who makes a few mistakes.
I walked to school on Friday, and when i got there I had a sip of water from the fountain, packed my bag, and waited for the bell to ring, announcing the start of the school day. Nothing interesting happened until the last class of the day, so I will start the story there.
It was 3:35, and there were 20 minutes left until the end of school. Mr. Jackson, my geography teacher, was setting our homework.
“Tonight” He said “I want you to draw out diagram 5.37 on page 294 of your text books, and then copy out the paragraph that follows it. Do it all on an A4 sheet of paper, and put it in your folders.”
That was a problem. It was the third week of school and i still didn’t have my folder. I was hoping Mr. Jackson would forget and let me go without saying a word.
“Ahem!” Announced Mr. Jackson. ”Now, Andrew, you failed to bring in last nights homework, and you will receive a detention.” The look on Andrew’s face was hilarious. Andrew, a stereotype nerd, wearing glasses and had big rodent teeth, always did his homework. I knew that the reason he hadn’t done his homework was because his mother had given out to him, and he was locked in his room. He forgot his bag downstairs, and if he told his mom that, he would be grounded for weeks.
I also knew that almost everyone in the class knew this, but we all knew that if we said anything to Mr. Jackson, the whole class would get detention and the person who said it would be beaten up by the rest of us for putting us in detention.
“Now class, for the last 10 minutes of class, I want you to study for the test on Tuesday. You may test yourselves in pairs. Mark, you can work with Fred and Sarah. Jim, I expect you to have a folder in class by tomorrow.”
10 minutes passed pretty quick, partly because my partner was Joseph, and he barely spoke to anyone. This meant i could spend 2 or 3 minutes studying and the rest just thinking about all the fun i was going to have with my new Wii game, which i bought yesterday, but i didn’t get a chance to play it.
Suddenly, the bell rang. The long and annoying sound filled the room, and a few people covered their ears. Our geography classroom was the closest room to the bell, and it was incredibly loud. People began to pack their bags, and I did the same.
