This is the start of a teen age romance short story I am writing and I would like it if you gave me your opinion on whether you like it or not.
“Butterfly Kisses
you make me smile
you make me grin
you make me feel like a little kid again”
Were the words written in the notebook that sat open on Sherry’s desk in English class. Sherry is a shy, quiet girl in her junior year of high school. Her family had moved here to the big city three years ago before her freshman year started. Her class continued around her as she drew hearts on the page. She was thinking about her crush John instead of listening to Mr. Slade give his lecture for the research essay.
The boy who came to mind made her blood get all warm and rush to her cheeks as she imagined his dreamy face in her mind he was beautiful in his own way but only Sherry really saw it. His name is John and he is the kind of guy most girls thought was average with his pale complexion and straight blonde hair as it has little life to it . Sherry has had at least two classes with John since freshman year and in every class he sat in front of her. This drove her crazy knowing that he was so close and that she couldn’t talk to him without feeling as if the world was spinning around her.
They were interested in most of the same stuff, not that she had talked to him long enough to know first hand. She had only talked to him a hand full of times all of the years they had known each other. She froze at the sight of him and her knees went weak when she even heard his sweet voice. The sweet feeling of a three-year crush bubbled up in her and she smiled to herself.
The class started gathering their things around her and she looked up at the clock to notice that the had bell rang, while she was in her thoughts. She got up slowly and picked up her books and headed towards the door still feeling warm and excited. She was on her way now to lunch the same old routine… in the back of the cafeteria with her small group of friends where she sat silent most of the time unless they talked to her first. Sherry went to her locker first to drop off her notebook filled with the poems she had written over time and a few journal entries about her lust for John in there.
She was on her way down the hall when, he stopped her as she made her way to lunch to ask her something. Sherry passed out as the world started to spin and her knees gave out and she hit the cold floor of the hall and didn’t want to move because she had noticed what had just happened to her. She was embarrassed and wanted to crawl into her locker and cry. Her face was filling again with the blood from her body as it gathered itself in her cheeks. She opened her eyes and he had his hand out to her asking her “Do you need a hand up Sherry? You hit the floor pretty hard.”
Ah his voice was like an angel to her. It was smooth and flowed through the hair like a sweet fragrance.
“yes, please,” she said with bright red cheeks.
John helped her up slowly and held her elbow to make sure she was stable for he was a sweet and caring boy. He eased away and as he did so he asked, “Do you need to sit down for a few minutes I can take you to the nurse?” She was surprised he was paying this much attention to her. She liked it and the butterflies were a flutter in her tummy, “No thank you I’m fine” she replied. Sherry was fine as long he was there even though she felt dizzy and confused.
“Where are you heading anyway?” He was still close making sure she was okay.
“Oh I was on my way to the cafeteria” it was almost a whisper coming from her soft lips. They walked into the cafeteria together saying little until they got in the line to grab their food.
John spoke softly, “I was going to ask you for your Chem notes before you got sick. By any chance do you have them?” She smiled and blushed slightly as she was talking to her crush who was now paying attention to her, “No, they are in my locker” she looked into his eyes this time when she spoke ” I could go back and get them after I get done here, if you want?” A fire burned in her, she wanted to kiss him but knew she would never have the nerve to do it in a life time.
“I dream of your kiss
from
the sweet of your lips
upon me as
I dream of your kiss
to touch me
to feel something from you
I dream of your kiss
my sweet prince”
Was the poem that came to mind that she had wrote about her needed kiss from him.
He was a dream, as it stood, right in front of her, dangling her needs in front of her without giving into more then the words that he had spoken.
Sherry stood in the line with only two people ahead of her and John. He was intoxicating to be around and she enjoyed every bit of it. She liked the way his face was soft and thin and when he smiled he had cute little dimples near his chin and the way he smelled now that she was close enough to tell. He smelled better then most guys since he didn’t smell of sweat or of dirt. Then again she hadn’t been too close to boys since she was younger and that was her opinion of how a simple boy smelled. Although she has smelled some foul teenage boys in her years like those who showered in cologne praying it would make their filth go away. John was different he had a sensitive smooth smell to him.
The next person in line was done now.
So she ran through the menu of what she would want to eat today. She was feeling too dizzy to eat much afraid of it not sitting well in her stomach. Chicken sand which, tea, and chips is what she usually ate, but today she wanted something lighter. Maybe a salad and a water.
Sherry liked eating because she could do it usually in silence and no one would think she was being rude for not talking if her mouth was full. She wasn’t a very talkative person even when it came to her friends. They already knew Sherry was a soft-hearted girl who liked to read and write but talk very little.
Sarah her best friend was also quiet, but Sarah knew all about Sherry’s crush on John and from their table Sarah sat watching Sherry fidget with her books and daze off in her thoughts like she usually did. Sarah liked John’s friend Alex after all so that was one thing the girls had no trouble talking about. There was going to be lots to talk about when she got to the table.
” Sherry, I will walk with you to your locker to get the notes. I really need them to study ya’ know for the test.” John said innocently
