They met by chance, but their love grew with every day. Tragedy struck and tore them apart. Is their love deep enough to survive?
I sit at my desk starring out the window at the peaceful summer evening, my pen thumping against my journal—waiting…waiting for him to come. As if he senses my thoughts, I see his silhouette step out from behind the big willow tree. I watch as he takes a step towards me.
He beckons to me.
My own personal ghost;
he haunts me
when I’m sleeping and
when I’m waking.
I cannot escape his haunting call
to join him.
Unable to resist, I open my window and climb down the trellis into his waiting arms. Hand in hand we run away into the night. We run to our secret hideaway…deep in the forest where the waterfall crashes with a deafening roar. We laugh at the moon, daring for someone to hear us. We are careless—intoxicated by our love.
The cool of the evening seeps into our skin
But we give no heed to it.
We feel nothing, but the heat of our love.
Slowly we sink to the ground
clinging to each other
because we know this moment will not last.
Lying there on the soft, giving ground, we stare into each other eyes. No words are needed; it is as if our minds are intimately connected. We know each others’ thoughts. We are soul mates—destined to love each other forever.
He reaches to tuck my hair
behind my ear.
“You are my life.
I cannot live without you.”
My breath catches
at his words.
Gently he pulls me towards him. Tenderly he caresses my face, as if afraid that I might shatter into a million pieces. Our lips touch and electricity courses through my body. My every nerve is sensitive to his touch…his fragrance…his music…his essence. Never before have I felt this.
His lips caress mine.
They brush my neck,
my eyes,
my hair,
and I will burst
for the ecstasy of it all.
Slowly, his lips reach mine again and we are caught on fire. Our minds melded together. His mind is the scent of rain after a storm. It is the cool breeze in the evening; it is the beauty in the sunrise.
