The chapter after the first page of Prophet to Fire.
Zander Heart, the son of the
late King Daren and his still alive mother Queen Lillian, was the heir to the
Shadow Kingdom and also the leader of the Guardians bent on finding this Sixth
Heir and killing her. But before him was his old ‘friend’ Sebastian Pagan. The
two of them had a very interesting history so to say as of late. It all started
when they were a bit younger on their boarder line. The two meet on unfavorable
terms with their backs up against the others trying their best to deal with
some bandits. Of course this was when Exander had gone missing leaving
Sebastian alone with Zander.
The two managed to fend off the
attackers and send them packing quickly making friends of one another. They
even managed to slowly bring their own Kingdoms together on this little trust
they made at that one moment of life and death, however everything changed when
the two groups got new leaders: Sebastian on one side and Zander on the other.
Yes they were appointed only
last year fully making these groups official. And that was when things became
tricky. Neither could fully attack the other leader full out in public due to
the fact that these groups are underground. If other kingdom Royals knew as to who was leading them war would break out
across the five kingdoms. And the two of them didn’t want that.
So it became a silent game of
risk, trying to find their Sixth Heir before the other, making attacks in the
cities against one another, and smiling happily with one another in the public
eye as if there was nothing that could have gone wrong with their friendship.
If they could have, they would have slit the other’s throat long ago.
Zander’s right eye, the blue
colored one, glanced to the side as he saw one of his members in court with
him. Yes she was from the Shadow Kingdom though her magic was over lightning
and she was very good at dealing with it as well. Her mastery over the blue
lightning, a color that many didn’t manage, was tremendous. And as she walked
over Zander almost laughed.
Alicia Goodwin had long blonde
hair that when she let it down reached to her lower back. Her shocking gray
eyes that were so clear stared at Sebastian for a moment before giving a smile.
Her dress flowed around her like mist as her hair was flowing down her left
side. Yes she was very pretty but on the battle field she didn’t look anything
like this. There Alicia tended to wear long boots with fitting pants and a
short sleeved shirt. Her hair tended to be hang around her and this smile was
almost creepy.
But just like Zander she was
forced to make an appearance. She was the daughter to a very noble family and
Zander’s fiancé. Yes she was to marry the prince as was destined for years now.
Zander didn’t make a word about it; Alicia however didn’t want to go through
with it. Power like that came with strings she hated to deal with.
“You all remember Alicia do you
not?” Zander said while taking her arm.
Sebastian’s eyes flashed with
hate for only an instant for the two to really see before that fake smile
sprung up on his face. “How could I forget? It’s not like we haven’t meet
before. Last time was a lot of fun if I recall.”
“Yes it was, wasn’t it?” she
said with a smile, almost mocking the Fire Prince.
The last time was only two days
ago on the very boarder. The two groups were once again fight when they both
heard that a girl with strange powers went through there. It was a stalemate
and as it turned out it was a rumor that had no truth behind it. However the
four of them didn’t go without some nice souvenirs.
Alicia’s left leg was slightly
burned. Sebastian’s back had its own burn and tare from the bolt. Zander
happened to get a bruising on his shoulder while Exander got a nasty little cut
on his chest. Thankfully no one could see them tonight as they were all covered
by some type of clothing.
And as the night wore on the
four of them were doing their best to exchange both pleasant looks and looks to
kill. No one other than the four saw them, but they were there. Talk about Dran
was thrown around as well as the soon be combined kingdoms of Water and Earth.
News of Valerie’s ruling had also spread to their ears and as to the wear about
of Lady Ashley was yet to be heard of. Zander could care less about that
kingdom, but a good idea to have support from free spirited people just in
case.
They were neither for or against
the Sixth Heir. The kingdom could be pushed one way or the other if it was
called for. And when Sebastian and Zander were ‘alone’ in front of everyone
keeping up appearances like normal it did come up.
“So what do you think is going
on up in their little world Sebastian?” Zander asked after a sip of the light
wine they were given.
Sebastian swirled it and looked
into the red substance. “Lady Ashley must be found. After all her younger
half-sister are running things into the ground up there. It seems she isn’t
ready to take on what is going on.”
Zander put his glass down. “So
did your prophet tell you this or did you figure it out with that great mind of
yours?”
Sebastian smiled like he did as
if they did something funny, “Oh there are things that he gets wrong. As for
what it is I could hardly say. However I can bet my life on what he says.”
“I would take that bet,” Zander
said, leaning back. “However I don’t have the time for that. Dran is out and
about is he not? It would be a shame to leave lovely Lady Lirael all along. Why
don’t you say something about that?”
Sebastian took a sip of the wine
this time. “I would if I didn’t have my sites elsewhere.”
Zander let out a laugh this
time. It was funny. Either this was Sebastian saying he was going to try for
Dran’s spunky younger sister Willow, Lady Ashley, or even Kana. Willow wasn’t really Sebastian’s taste and
Kana was too much of…well a tree hugger. Ashley however gave off that vibe of
need of help, partly because she was missing. However knowing Sebastian for as
long as he did Zander could bet his life that his enemy was going to find
Ashley without a problem.
“I can’t wait to see what you
pick,” Zander said with an almost evil smile. “I would hate for you to get
stuck with the Water Kingdom who you openly hate. Willow would also be very
openly against that since she is so much like her older brother in that way.”
Zander stood up. “However it is
getting late and I’m sure we both have a long day tomorrow.”
Sebastian stood up as well and
the two shook hands. Tomorrow was going to be another day, and another day to
make the other slip up and either die or get found out. Yes they had to act as if
they were friends; however they were good at trying to get the other to slip
up. Nothing happened but the fun of the game was always around. This was how it
was and how it always would be, until the Sixth Heir was found.
