Here is a peek into the hustle and bustle of life.
“Lucas!”, the shop owner called. He rustled through a stack of papers on the work table just behind the counter. It doesn’t seem to be there. Growing ever more frustrated, he called again, “Lucas! Where’d you put that receipt son?” Next he goes over to the cash register and lifts it. Looking underneath it and finding nothing, he lets go of it with a loud thud.
Now, Mr. Armstrong is not the most patient man you could ever meet. He’s been looking for this one particular receipt all morning. The pick up truck will be there any minute now. The package has been put together and all he needs is this receipt to insure no further delays.
“Son?”
“On the counter, Dad!”
So now he knows where the receipt is. Not two feet away. Just withing his grasp and what is his response as he flies out the door? “Okay, son, grab it and put it in the back for me. Thanks.”
Did I mention Mr. Armstrong is also somewhat lacking in organizational skills?
The computer is kept in the back of the shop. Lucas is dutifully transferring data into the shop’s new accounting software. He enters ‘+’ to debit, ‘-’ to credit, checks his total … and it all zeroes out. Okay, he’s really cooking now. Hits enter and he’s finished. Ah, yes, what would dear old Dad do without the whizkid? He leans back in his chair, wipes the strain and fatigue from his eyes. Leaning forward, his hands on his knees, he pushes himself up until standing. Gosh, you’d think he was an old man the way he stands up and not the 22 year old straight out of college youth that he really is. He strides up to the front counter, heads straight for the receipt his Dad wanted, picks it up and places it in its proper folder in back. He vows to himself to one day organize all his Dad’s files into a reasonable system.
