November 6, 1869 in the U.S. city of New Brunswick (NJ) teamat Rutgers and Princeton universities met on the football fieldand played a cross between soccer and rugby. Since this date is considered the official birthday of American Football. The ball is then pushed down, points are awarded for goals, but atouchdown and out of the question. Only in 1875 were given one point for bringing the ball in the opponent’s end zone.The rules were amended, relating to penalties for rough play.Soccer players also had to invent a special protective form - there were pants with shields. Athletes were encouraged to put on his head while playing the leather helmet (since 1939 the use of a helmet became mandatory)
