A short story about the receiving of two superhuman abilities for a troubled teenager named Jake.
It all started with one simple fight with my parents. I got mad at them and they got mad at me. These fights were quite common among my family, but this one would prove way different. For a while I had contained myself but tonight I decided I couldn’t handle it anymore. As soon as dinner was over my mother approached me and said, “Jake, this is not acceptable. Your teacher called today and said that you got a 2% on your last English test. From now until January you are grounded. This means no television, computer, or iPod. That is unless you get your grades up to a 2.9 GPA. Until then you will do as I say.” I shouted in response, “WHAT!?! You can’t do that. That’s 2 months away and I’ll…” Just then my mom dropped her plate that she was carrying and screamed kind of a half cry-half scream. My dad looked over and said, “What happened Tina? Where’s Jake?”
I shouted, “I’m right here. Mom I didn’t even hurt you. I looked down at my shoes, only they… they weren’t there. My anger stopped and fear struck me. Five seconds later my feet reappeared. “How on Earth did you do that Jake”, my mom asked with fear in her voice now rather than anger. I had turned invisible. “Jake go up to your room and we’ll talk to you in an hour”, my dad said with confusion in his voice. I listened this time and went up to my room. After half an hour I figured out that I could turn on and off my invisibility when I wanted to. I also found out that I could walk through things such as walls or solid objects. I was very confused. Was this a dream? It couldn’t be. I lay down in my bed and thought about what I would use my powers for. Would my powers become too big of a responsibility? Soon, I fell asleep to all of these worrisome thoughts.
