To understand Thanatos, one must understand the man he once was. Luke Terracova. Luke was an amazing young man. Far beyond his peers in school, he had a dizzying intellect. His father encouraged him to be schooled in military tactics and strategies. Thusly, that is the path his life took course to. He attended the military academy of Izlude and became a strategist for the military. As a tactician he saw battle and war from a unique perspective, and as he continued to view from this angle, he grew more and more interested in combat, rather than strategy. After much consideration, Luke shifted divisions and became trained as a swordsman. Once again, he excelled. At the top of his class, he was given command of a small unit. But before long, Luke lost the fervent passion and luster he once had for the fight, just as he had done with strategy. His new passion was intriguing. It appealed to his intellect, Magic.

      Luke Terracova began attending the Sage Academy in Yuno, after taking up residence there. As with all other endeavors in his life, his efforts returned with great success. Each experiment turned up new ideas and theories, each research study brought new ways to solve old problems. His instructors valued his knowledge and his insight. It was here at the academy that Luke’s life hit it’s climax. He met his love, Amelia Carlan. Amelia was another bright student at the Academy and the two often studied and worked research together. After their graduation, the two were wed. Luke and Amelia were a happy couple, who through the next few years of their lives grew together, in knowledge, and in love for eachother.

      Of all the things that Amelia taught Luke, the most prominent was the summoning and command of a specific type of spirits. These spirits, were known as Thanatos. The Thanatos were a breed of spirits, which were focal around negative emotions. The different sub-breeds of Thanatos were used by Luke in his experiments and endeavors.

      Amelia never had an easy life. Her mother, passed away when she was 14 years of age, due to an unidentified medical condition. Her father, was an abusive alcoholic. Kale Carlan, her father beat Amelia and her younger brother Michael quite frequently, and Michael, the one shining bit of hope in Amelia’s family, committed suicide shortly after she left for the Academy. Even after her marriage to Luke, Amelia’s father never let her loose. He kidnapped Amelia from her home with Luke and would lock her away in his own home, taking her out only for beating in his drunken stupors or the occasional meal. After the third time she was captured, her father killed her in a drunken rage. Luke mourned, for months.
