Squirt wants to help his mama with the garden but instand makes a mess, so his mama gives him his own garden.
Since spring started Squirt’s mama was outside planting stuff in their garden for them to eat through out the spring and summer. Squirt wanted to help, but he kept making a mess in the soil. So his mama picked a little area that hadn’t been used yet and allowed Squirt to plant his own garden.
Squirt planted some clover, dandelions, marigolds, mint, and parsley. These were his favorite things to eat. He even planted cucumber for his friend Slater. Squirt’s mama told him that he had to water his garden and weed it, to make sure everything grows. Everyday he was out there weeding and watering his part of the garden. Soon he started to see some of the greens poking through the soil. He also would sit and watch the lady bugs and bees in the garden. The flowers were the first to bloom and soon the other stuff was ready to be picked.
On his way to school, Squirt would pick a dandelion or marigold to eat as he walked. Then it rained for almost a week. When the sun was shinning again Squirt saw that his garden was over grown with clover and the other vegetables too. He and Slater knew they wouldn’t be able to eat all of the food but they didn’t want it to go to waste either. So while they continued to pull the weeds, they thought about what to do with the extra food. Slater was the first to come up with an idea and told it to Squirt. Squirt’s mama was going to have a yard sale and they could sell their extra food there.
So the day of the yard sale, Squirt and Slater had a table with all of the left over food that they had freshly picked earlier that morning. They sold each for just a dollar a bag of food. by the end of the day they had made close to twenty dollars. They didn’t know what to do with the money when Squirt’s mams suggested that they donate it. So that’s what they decided to do and donated it to the local animal shelter.
