New love, Old love, back-stabbing and friendship from start to finish.
North:
” Yeah, tomorrow sounds good.” She said looking at me with her distressing brown eyes. It killed me. I knew I didn’t sound convincing when I said I loved her back. How could I mean it when I was still with Eva? Fuck, Fuck, Fuck! Eva was being more dependent of me. I felt like I couldn’t leave her now. But then here I had Jess, telling me that she loved me after a month of sneaking around. I knew she meant it, but I could tell she wanted me to decide between her and Eva. I looked at my watch it was almost midnight. Damn. I told Eva I would be at her house at nine.
Eva:
“I was out with some guy friends.” He said walking slowly up the stairs to my apartment. He was lying. ” Why did you bother showing up here? Why would you come here after seeing her? ” I ask. His eyes narrow up and he looks like he is pondering if he should turn and make a run for it. ” What are you talking about?”
I reach in and grab his cell phone out of my purse, he looks nervous. ” You left this on my night stand. I got a call a couple minutes ago. It said unknown but I answered it anyways. The phone was breaking up so I couldn’t hear who it was but it was a girl’s voice and they hung up quickly. The only reason they would hang up is because they know it would get you into trouble. What is going on? Tell me.”
He leaned up against the brick wall facing my door. His head was down as if he were scrutinizing the ground for something, maybe an explanation. After a few moments he sighed and leaned his head back against the wall and took out a cigarette. He always smoked when he was stressed. I was getting tired of his silence. ” I’m going inside. If you decided to talk you know where to find me.” I turned toward the door when I heard him speak. I stopped. Why did he say her name? Why did he say Jess’s name? I turn back around eyes shut and count to three. Maybe if I count to three he will disappear, it will be a dream and he wont be able to say anything more. One, two, three I open my eyes, he is still there. He takes another puff of his cigarette and puts it out on the wall and tosses it to the ground. ” I have been seeing Jess for a month now.”
Enter knife into back.
North:
“What is going on? Tell me.” Her voice pleaded. How do I get out of this one? I could just say it was the wrong number with it showing up as unknown and all. I knew it was good that Jess and I decided to block our numbers from showing up on each other’s phone. But is Eva gullible enough to fall for that? My nerves were killing me. I took out a cigarette. I leaned my head back against the cool brick wall and closed my eyes to think. Jess appeared. I saw her sitting on her bed, her sad brown eyes begging for me to make a decision. I was happy with her. I was hardly stressed out except when I thought of Eva. I took another puff and heard Eva say something about going inside. I made my decision. I opened my mouth and the only word that was fit to answer her question came pouring out, “Jess.” I opened my eyes. She was turning back around with her eyes shut. I watched her mouth silently count to three. She opened her eyes and starred at me, still not understanding my answer. I guess I have to explain more. ” I have been seeing Jess for a month now.” She was silent. I knew I had crushed
