Don’t stick your flute too high in the air; it might get struck by lightning. Lyrics to God is Bigger Than the Marching Band; learn the song if you’ve been falling out! It helped me!
So, today was an adventure. Thunder, lightning, rain drops, and a heat index that was definitely above or very very close to the magic danger number. BUT- we lived.
Aside from that, good job today. We got through the whole first song! Kind of. Be sure to review pages 10 and 11… we didn’t go over them much and I’m pretty sure the entire flute and possibly clarinet section forgot where to go on those three moves.
Basically, we just need practice. You should know where your spot is now; get to it. Try to remember which direction your feet are going, and stay in the arcs. Flutes did a pretty good job of staying together, even when we were totally off from where we should have been, but we need to connect with the clarinets… we seem to be having issues with that every single time we set it.
Now, it was pretty hot out today. We had quite a few people sitting out because they were dizzy. In the future, make sure you eat a good breakfast, drink lots of water, don’t lock your knees, and sing God is Bigger Than The Marching Band in your head. It makes everything more complicated when we have to march holes, so we need everyone on the field.
We still need to work out some of the rhythms in the music; mostly we just need to start and stop together. Get the runs up to speed. Also, it’s time to start memorizing. We’re marching and playing now, so if you don’t want that music shoved in your face while you run drill, learn it fast. SPEAKING OF MUSIC: Bring a flip folder!! It is not optional! If you don’t have one, go buy one, tonight! You have no excuse for not playing, and if you don’t have your music, we’ll start giving push-ups soon, so you had better get a folder.
Lyrics to God is Bigger Than the Marching Band (parody of God is Bigger Than the Boogey Man, Veggietales):
God is bigger than the marching band.
He’s bigger than Mr. Chipman, Mr. K and Dr.C
Oh, God is bigger than the marching band,
and he’s keeping me from fainting.
Are you woozy? No not really!
Getting tired? Not a bit! I know whatever’s gonna happen, that god can handle it!
I know it can be scary when you start to lock your knees,
So don’t do that, cause now you know that that will knock you to your feet!!
Oh!
(repeat)
