Everyone needs others. No one is an island by themselves. This is a story of two kings. One who was very proud and arrogant, who thought he needed no one because he was the most intelligent and talented person around. The other king was very wise, but humble. Even though he was not the most handsome and gifted he had the support of his people.

In a land far, far away in the middle of The Peaceful Sea is an island. On that island were two kingdoms.

One kingdom was very, very rich and the other kingdom was very, very poor.

The people of one kingdom were very, very happy and the people of the other kingdom were very, very sad.

The ruler of one kingdom was very, very wise and the ruler of the other kingdom was very, very foolish.

Phillip the Haughty, the king of Arrogance, was very handsome. His face was perfect. His hair was long and golden brown. His body was very well per portioned and muscular. The girls all liked him the first time they saw him.

Phillip the Haughty was also very smart. In fact he was the smartest person in the entire kingdom or any other kingdom in that part of the world. He went to all the best schools and learned everything the best teachers could teach him.

On the other hand, Norman the Humble, the king of Humility, was very homely. Most people when they first saw him would say, “He’s ugly!” He had a wart on the end of his nose. He had no hair on top of his head and the hair on the sides of his head. His teethe were crooked and his ears stuck out from the sides of his head like tiny wings. His arms were weak, his legs were bowed and he had a pot-belly.

Norman the Humble was not very smart. He never did well in school. It was often said of him, “He doesn’t know enough to pour the rainwater out of his boots before he puts them on.”

Phillip the Haughty knew he was handsome and strong and that the girls all liked him the first time they saw him. He also knew he was the smartest person any where around. He was sure there was nothing else anyone could teach him.

Norman the Humble looked at his face in the mirror every morning. He saw his crooked teethe, crumpled hair, the ears that looked like tiny wings and the wart on the end of his nose. Every morning, he would say to himself, “I’m ugly!” He also knew he was not very smart and he often would forget to pour the rainwater out of his boots before he put them on.
