During the Depression, Newgate banks were never successfully robbed due to advanced technology.
A man removed the headset and said, “As you see, you are not in a whorehouse in Paris. What you and the others stole have been returned to the banks from which you stole them.”
“Where am I and who are you?”
“You are in a holding area below the streets of Newgate. Your cars are in the police vehicle compound and will be sold to the public in a nearby city.”
“How in the world did you capture us? We didn’t see any cops.”
“You’re in Newgate. This is not your typical new England town. Your minds were placed in EPU programs after the flash you saw at the edge of town. That is the way we catch criminals around here. We make them think they are escaping so that if they contact someone else who needs to be arrested, we can grab them and transport him here for processing.”
“What about the others? Where are they?”
“They’re in cells like this one awaiting processing. Since we know all of you were involved in robbery, you’ll be shifted to another dimension and held in prison programs for at least 20 years. After that time, you’ll have three options. You can stay in the programs for the rest of your lives, or stay in that dimension and live productive lives, or be brought back here and have your memories erased and replaced with false memories to explain your 20-year disappearance. You would then be transported to the cities or regions of your choice and given a gemstone worth no less than $100,000 to help you start a new life. Even in 1952, $100,000 should be a large amount of money. You will also be given new identities in case people who may be after you now are still alive and after you then.”
“I hope you’re right. I’d hate to have the guys that wanted us to pull off this job to want us dead twenty years from now.”
“For all they’ll know, you and your men will have been dead for those twenty years if you decide to shift back to this dimension.”
The man left the room with the EPU and minutes later, Horace was processed and shifted to another dimension where he spent the next twenty years experiencing various programs which convinced him that he was better off remaining in that dimension and living the rest of his life free and without the need to look over his back to see if anyone was after him.
