An atheist challenges the Newgate librarian in a debate on the existence of God.
One of the biggest debates in science today concerns evolution and Creationism. In Newgate, the argument was settled long ago. But there are still many who challenge the existence of God and that he created the universe. One such person was Dr. William Montel who lectured around the world challenging anyone to prove he was wrong. But that was until he came to Newgate.
The challenge was issued a month in advance to see if anyone wanted to debate the world famous atheist anywhere in the world. It was accepted by the librarian of Newgate. He looked forward to making the man look like a fool.
To make the challenge more interesting, atheist groups, the ACLU, and Montel himself put up a total prize of $1 million if he could be conclusively proven wrong. The one who challenged him would have to pay him $1 million if Montel couldn’t be proven wrong. The stage was set for the debate of the new century.
Montel agreed to challenge the librarian, Darvan Nordram, in the same underground auditorium where the Newgate war trial was held in 1946. It had room for over 100,000 people thanks to interdimensional access to three other large halls in three other dimensions. There were extended 3-D cameras so that what was recorded could be experienced in a program that was going to be offered for sale to anyone.
October 16 came and most of the people from Newgate and various dimensions started filing in after 5:00 PM so they could get good seats. Even concessions were sold before the debate which was scheduled to start at 7:00 PM. The atheist who was transported from Chicago to Newgate to keep the location of the city a secret to him was amazed to see the throng of people entering the wide entrance that led underground to the Newgate portion of the auditorium not knowing that over 70,000 had already entered in the other dimensions and from below ground.
The mayor stepped out onto the spacious stage amid polite applause from the audience.
“Thank-you, ladies and gentlemen. We are in for a real treat tonight. The world famous atheist Dr. William Montel is challenging Newgate’s own, Darvan Nordram, the city librarian, to a debate on evolution versus Creationsim and whether God exists. Without any further ado, Dr. Montel and Mr. Nordram.”
