Presently he makes himself comfortable in an easy armchair, next to his bed. Again the medics leave him, apart from Usura…

What the hell’s going on? I’m still in bed. In a big white room. The light hurts my eyes! Must cover my face. Damn – my hands are tied – I cannot reach my eyes. I’ll look down. My feet are shackled too. The bed clothes are white. I’m surrounded by medical instruments. In hospital! A nurse!

“What am I doing here?”

“You’ve been very ill Adammos…” the young female nurse replies.

“Adammos? But I’m John Fletcher. What the hell’s happened to me?”

“Please keep calm. Once you settle down, we will be able to help you get your memory back.”

“Memory? So you’re telling me I’ve lost my memory? Where is Jean? Where’s my wife?”

“Your…mate…Faera is at home now, but will visit you again tomorrow.”

“Faera? But I’m married to Jean. Oh God, what’s happening? Tell me this is a wind up. What about my kids, Jessica and Stuart?”

The nurse’s questioning look tells all.

“Don’t tell me,” sighs John, “my kids aren’t called Jessica and Stuart…”

“You have no offspring.”

“No…? Okay, we’ll agree to disagree on that one. So where am I then?”

“Manton Healing Centre.”

“Manton…? Never heard of such a place. Okay, you can stop the show now. I’ve been had. Nice one. Good wind up…”

“I’ll get the medic.”

Must be a wind-up. They must have knocked me out and brought me here. Now they’ll bring in the cameras. Or maybe just that lot from work. Ah, the nurse is back, evidently with a male nurse and two female doctors (the nurses are in blue, the doctors in white…robes? Religious hospital?). One of the female doctors steps forward.

“How are you?” she asks.

“Come on. That’s enough. This must be a wind-up. A joke’s a joke. That’s enough. You can untie me now.”

“Untie you? You are the one who is joking! How can we untie you when you are so violent?”

“Violent? I wouldn’t hurt a fly. Look, last thing I remember I was at home asleep in bed with my wife, Jean.”
