A short story of a tradegy.

There was a time when the summer was my sanctum and I awaited the searing heat and the annoying bugs that that floated around the cool springs. My fondest memory’s was the one of Skyler, It was junior year when we met and senior year when we parted. Before I get to carried away I will tell you the story.

The highlight of my junior year was Skyler, Sky I called him. But the story starts senior year the year that made me forget the comfort of summer and dread this place. The summer had just started and we were on a bench, or was it a swing. The minor details seem to be nothing but fuzz now that I have grown older. The incident itself plays in my head like a bad song every night in my sleep. We were quiet, the awkward moment that had just passed was setting in. That small kiss meant more to me, still means more to me than anything else that has happened to me. We were waiting for the theatre to open to watch a movie. Alas Icannot remember which one it was but I grew to hate that movie for this particular reason. Positively if I were to see it I would know it. Back to my train of thought. We were spending the day together and there had been a good since In the air all day long. Now I know why. I had been building up the courage all year to do that simple thing.

When the day became a buzz we moved around town. We saw people we knew and made fun of signsand posters at times laughing so hard we could not breathe. Seven was when the showing of the movie started. we had loads of time to kill doing mindless things that made no since at all. When the movie started we had done everything that could be done in this small town. He even told me about how he noticed that even at night the traffic light still flashed. But that was the last time he would see the lights flash.

It was nine fifty when the movie was over. we still had time to kill so we walked the empty streets of the small town again. We had reconciled the movie and were talking quietly when a man came up and grabbed me.

“Give me all you got boy or I will kill her.” the man had said. Sky gave him everything he had asked for. my teeth grit thinking of the awful sound that was made when the man fired the gun off. He killed Skyler right there just for the spite of it. The bastard was caught but nothing could help the pain i felt, still feel in my heart. It weighed like an anchor. Dragging me down.

Summers passed and I stayed lonely. I never married nor did I have kids. Now that I’m sixty none years old people ask if i regret it i simply look at them starry eyed and reply “No.”. Summer, good memories and nightmares alike.
