C.J. awoke bright and early to the sound of Robins singing their wake up call.  What a beautiful summer day she thought, as she breathed in the fresh air from the open window next to her bed. She hopped out of bed and put on her favorite baseball shirt along with her favorite cut off blue jean shorts.  She reached underneath her bed for her sneakers and quickly put them on, stuffing the laces down inside. C.J. skipped down the stairs just in time to answer the phone. Lena’s voice was on the other end.

“C.J. you will never guess where we have been invited?” she shrieked with excitement. “Renee Hartman wants us to join her and some of her friends today for a game of kickball.”

Renee had transferred to Rivermont Elementary School during the last half of the year, and had been Lena’s study partner in class.

“Do you wanna go?” she asked barely able to contain her excitement.
