It once happened that I got into a heated argument with this colleague of mine! It started off as an innocent exchange of inquiry about each others’ well-being, but then it swerved off into quite obscure fields! He spoke about how the bible contained all the secrets of the universe and how all of science’s supposed findings had already been documented in it! Quite bemused by his confidence, I asked him-“So how old is the earth according to the bible?”, “About 6000 years old” came the reply! Appalled by his response, I clarified that the Earth is at least 4 Billion Years old, I spoke about the geological evidences that affirm my belief and also about the various other scientific observations that point in the same direction – including the fossils, that date (their) life back to at least a few million years B.C. I told him that the difference between 6000 and 4 billion was way too high for it to be a mere “approximation error” , and that it could only mean that one of our theories was completely wrong!

“ ‘Ah’- it’s a well known fact that those dinosaur skeletons were put there by some evil force- that anticipated just this exact case of ‘disbelief in god’s word’, to brew amongst men!” – came his reply!
I got up, and walked away, and made it a point to never see his face again!
