Once upon a time there was an ant hill where some red ants lived. For the past one hundred years they had lived without any debt to any other insects (or creatures), but everything was not as fine as it used to be.

The Ants wanted to be much richer and smarter than their cousins the Black Ants so the Red Ants decided to start trade with other insects. Since the Red Ants lived near a small vegetable garden, they decided to harvest grain and other small seeds from the garden. The Red Ants wanted to know who in the insects’ world wanted to trade with them, so they sent out one of their leading Ants to go and find some insects to trade with them in the insect capital city of the insect world.

When he got there he advertised that they wanted to trade with anybody. Eventually somebody came to him and asked the Ant all about it, he was a Locust. After the Ant had told him exactly what they where trading the Locust accepted and offered the Ant what they called “insurance”, since the Ant was not so clever he did not exactly know what the Locust meant but the Locust had told the Ant so persuasively that the Ant just accepted.

The Ant then went back to his colony and told them of the good news. The Queen Ant was surprised at what the Ant did and awarded him with becoming her advisor. Eventually they made the plans for the harvesting, and soon after actually began the harvest. The Ants made it so that they would make a harvest every month and then the Locusts’ would come and pick it up.

With one day left until the end of the first month, the Ants had just managed to gather up the final grains and seeds with a little time left. Then they waited for the Locusts’ to come; when the Locusts eventually came they took their grain and just took off, leaving only the leader of the Locusts’ behind he spoke to the Queen of the Ants and told her that in return for the grain the Locusts’ would provide protection for the Ants from any “insect” attacks on the Ants. The Ants thought of this as a great idea because they were so small compared to all the other insects, so it would be delightful not to have to fight against other insects.

After about eight months of trading with the Locusts’ the Ants felt the stress of working during the summer and delivering more and more for the Locusts’. Some of the Ants amongst the colony did not feel like they were getting anything out of the whole trade agreement. At about the tenth month the Ants were almost robbed by a bunch of Termites, the Termites had tried to take the Ants own food supply, but just as the Termites were about to steal the grain the Locusts’ flew in to take their delivery. With all the buzzing and humming the Termites ran away thinking it was a lawnmower.
