This is the beginning of a story about a fantastic apology.

“I don’t want to talk to you James,”

“Stephanie, just here me out,”

“No I’ve had enough of your expanations, it’s getting ridiculous James,”

“But I can fix this,”

“You don’t have to fix it! I get it, it’s obvious you don’t care about me, and that’s ok, it’s ok you can go, James,”

“Steph, please don’t do this, I hate it when you get like this,”

“Why do you always do that? You never address what’s making me say the things, you just assume I’m being a drama queen,”

“Well you are aren’t you?”

“…Why’d you come here?”

“…To… To make it better,”

“But why, if you assume I’m just being dramatic, and I’ll be over it by tomorrow, would you think you needed to come here?”

“Well… because, because I’m expected to, because I should,”

I turned around and I walked away, I was done with him, I couldn’t take it anymore. I always forgave him… for everything, because he was my best friend. But he takes me for granted. He doesn’t come to apologize because he knows he’s done wrong. He doesn’t come because he can’t believe he hurt me, and wants me to feel good again. He doesn’t even come because he fears he’ll loose me, and wants to save our relationship, or even our friendship. He does it because he feels obligated. He does it so he looks like the good guy, oh he went and apologized, I should forgive, him, why haven’t I forgiven him? I’m done. I love him, I see the good in him, he’s my best friend, but I have to take care of myself right? None of that is worth the stress our relationship puts on me. I have to focus on my life, I have to surround myself with people who make me feel good, who deserve me. It may be selfish but I’m so rarely selfish, it’s time I started.
