Charming pre-school children’s short story about the goings on at a pond on a summer day.
In the big blue pond
At the waters edge
The little eggs waited
And waited and waited.
One day it rained
And they still waited.
Many nights passed
And something began to happen…
The eggs started to wiggle and jiggle
And finally, POP! Out came a pollywog
And another,
And another,
until there were too many to count.
They looked around in the big blue pond
And off they swam in different directions
Except for one.
He looked on in the big blue pond
To see what he could see
And what a lot there was.
Swallows swooped and soared above,
while dragonflies skittered by.
On his log a turtle dozed
undisturbed by all.
There was even a boat
on the big blue pond
But no fish would be caught today
For the fisherman too, had fallen asleep
under the summer sky
As fish swam merrily by.
In the big blue pond
The pollywog listened
as the bullfrogs croaked their happy song.
A choir of crickets joined in, and so the symphony began.
The pollywog knew that someday soon,
he would join in their song.
But for right now, he was just a little pollywog
In the big blue pond.
