The Big Surprise.
“Kring” is the nickname of Kristine Brett, a first honor pupil in Grade School. She attended a Girl Scout Summer Camp as a gift from her parents and Ant Betty. Ant Betty is her mother’s sister and also a Girls Scout leader. She accompanied the troop to a nearby rural place.
Attending a summer camp was full of excitement for Kring. Being a friendly girl, she easily became everybody’s favorite.
Kring learned a lot. She joined the long hikes and dances around the bonfire. She learned to swim and do many things. She had some pictures taken in the tree house in a garden park.
How fast the days went by. Soon, it was the closing night. A program was prepared and Kring had a part in it.
“Be in your pretty dresses tonight,” Ant Betty said to the troop after lunch.
To Kring, the closing day was a very special day. It was her tenth birthday. Nobody in the camp knew about it except Ant Betty. But she seemed to have forgotten it.
“Dear, run to your room now and fix yourself up,” Ant Betty told Kring later in the afternoon. Kring walked sadly towards her room.
On her bed, Kring saw a pretty pink dress with matching ribbons. There was also a pair of black shoes and pink socks.
“Oh, they’re lovely. Who put these on my bed?” she asked.
All of a sudden, the door opened and a sudden burst of “Happy Birthday, Kring” filled the room. All the scout leaders and members came up singing.
“Your mother gave these to me before we left,” Ant Betty. “We have a double celebration tonight,” she added with a smile. “I’ve ordered some ice cream and a big cake for you.”
Kring ran to hug and kiss her aunt. Soon, everyone was kissing Kring.
