A strange looking lottery ticket calls to a women.

The north wind blew under the fancy skirt to chill her legs as they hurried into the small neighborhood store. Her husband wanted to buy lottery tickets for the weeks drawing before they attended their work Christmas Party.

The store was quiet for a Saturday night, and they quickly picked their numbers and one holiday scratch ticket for her. While paying her eyes were drawn to a large black ticket under the glass counter. She couldn’t take her eyes off it. It was elegant. Solid matted black with only the words Florida Lottery and $5 written in gold script. They walked out of the store.

Settled in the car she turned to her husband.
“ Did you see that strange looking black ticket?”
“ No”, he replied.
“ It was so pretty all in black and gold.”
“Do you want me to go back inside and get you one?”

After a brief hesitation she smiled ,and nodded her head. She had a strange feeling about the black ticket. Her husband returned and handed her the unusual looking ticket. She placed it in the glove compartment with the other tickets, and they headed out to the party.

Soon they were sharing the Christmas Season celebration with their many co-workers. The food left much to be desired but the music was grand ,and the dancing fun. They laughed with friends and danced until their feet ached. It was a good night.

Once home she removed the tickets and carried them into the warm house. Soon she was scratching away. First, her holiday ticket without any luck, then the mystical ticket black that had so called to her.

Slowly, she revealed the golden numbers. A twenty-six simmered under the kitchen light, one of her winning numbers. She was almost afraid to scratch away the rest. Afraid the magic might be broken and the black ticket would disappear. Time seemed to stop as more sparking golden numbers came into view. Finally the ticket gave up it’s magic, she had won five hundred dollars.

A very simple, straight forward narrative. It’s definitely a flash fiction story. The end is in doubt. It turns out well. P.S. You have the protagonist wearing a “shirt.” I assume you meant “skirt.”

A dollar and a dream. I’ve known that feeling before, but it doesn’t happen too often. Thanks.
