A defiant young one.

Frederick the Bumblebee spent his time buzzing around

from flower to flower throughout the town.

Frederick would gather the nectar and carry it back to the hive

where it was buzzing with other bees, very much alive.

You see Frederick was a Worker Bee

and all of them would take care of the Queen Bee.

One day Frederick decided to try out a field of beautiful flowers that he had been looking at for some time.

But all of the other Worker Bees told him not to go beyond the boundryline.

For if you were to go beyond the boundryline

no one would be able to get to you in time.

Supposedly there were traps, and sprays that were being used to get rid of the bees.

For the owner of the field had an aversion to bees you see.

The owner felt that they were annoying, mainly because he was always getting stung.

That’s when he decided that traps, and sprays had to be sprung.

Frederick thought that this was just a tall tale to be told to keep the youngsters in line.

But Frederick was about to find out that this was a tale to keep in mind.

One day Frederick got up bright and early and did not tell anyone where he was going,

but little did he know that the eldest Worker Bee was wise and all knowing.

Frederick flew silently into the field

totally in awe of the beauty that the flowers yield.

Frederick flew to the center of the flowers

when upon him fell the smelliest of showers.

Frederick grew dizzy and weak for a moment but he flew on

completely oblivious to what was going on.

The next thing Frederick knew he was flying in a square

totally unaware of how he got there.

Try as he might Frederic couldn’t get out.

Try as he might no one could hear him shout.

Frederick crawled up one side of the square

and tried to figure out how he was going to get out of there.

Why didn’t he listen to the tales he was told?

Why did he choose to be defiant and bold?

Frederick crawled into a corner and began to cry

and promised that if he got out of there he would be a much better guy.

Then a very light buzz caught Fredericks attention.

It was the wisest Worker Bee standing at attention.

Without a word the wisest Worker Bee got Frederick out of the square

then quickly, and quietly, got out of there.

“I thought that no one came back from that field?” Frederick asked

“Both ways are true.” the wisest Worker Bee said at last

“I was once in your shoes.

Cocky and stubborn. Better than thou, just like you.”

the wisest Worker Bee said

as he reached out and patted his son’s head.

“I won’t do that again father. I promise I won’t.”

“I know that son. Now let’s get you home.”

Frederick held to his promise and became the best Worker bee that he could.

As he followed in his father’s footsteps, just as he knew he should.

And from that day on neither Frederick or his father said a word

to correct, or not correct, any of the tales that they heard.
