A brief experience of an encounter in a Cafe’

                                                           The Café Encounter!

Steve looked down at the pristine white table cloth and he straightened his tea spoon so it sat exactly  parallel to his coffee cup.  He looked to the opposite end of the table and he studied they pink clutch bag and “Gucci” sun glasses resting together.  Looking up Steve couldn’t help noticing the beauty of the 1930’s Art-Deco food cabinet, behind the glass there were pastries and pies and perfectly cut cucumber sandwiches.

It wasn’t just the look of this place that Steve loved it was the smells, strong coffee vying for space with chocolate sprinkles and sweet sticky buns.  Steve turned his head to his left shoulder and in hailed the musky deep smell of her perfume, she only lightly touched Steve on the shoulder as she left to use the ladies room, but the smell made him blush and the thoughts of maybe what would transpire later.

Reality seeped into his brain, what would Steve be doing any other Wednesday night?  He mused to himself he knew exactly what he would be doing.  A T.V. dinner would be left out for him and a discounted sci-fi or war film.  Sandra always went to her keep fit class on a Wednesday she never missed it for the world.  It was nice of Sandra to leave food and entertainment out for him, just like the good little husband he was, he would eat the plastic food and watch the film, but not tonight!

Every detail of this café oozed nostalgia and class.  The elevator was the original down to the metal linked fence that closed by hand when you wanted the lift to go up or down.  The windows were metal framed and the glass not quite transparent years of city smog had ingrained the glass.

Steve noticed other couples talking and laughing at small circular tables that were immaculately clean.  To his right and elderly couple were talking and with any gap in the conversation the lady took a delicate sip of her red wine from a crystal glass.
