Christina goes through another depressing day at work, until a special customer changes her perspective.
“Fine”, Christina replied, as she rung up the merchandise, “As if you care.”
It seemed like the lady went on a shopping spree, buying things just because they were on sale. She had something from just about every area of the store. She had soda, chips, candy, soap, hair spray, candles, and other various items.
It seemed like it took Christina forever to scan all of the merchandise. Each time Christina scanned two items, the lady would put up four more.
Christina finally finished ringing up the cart load of merchandise and processed the lady’s credit card. “She’s probably really close to her limit, now.” Christina thought as she watched the lady swipe her card on the terminal. Christina tore off the receipt from the register and handed it to the lady.
“Thank you,” Christina said, “Have a nice day.”
“Oh, wait miss,” the lady said, reaching into her cart, “I have two more purchases to make.” Christina felt like pulling out her hair when the lady put two large coffee makers on the counter.
“As if she didn’t buy enough all ready!” she thought as she reached for one of the coffee makers to ring it up. “She obviously has too much money and doesn’t know what to do with it.”
“Could you please place the coffee makers upright in the bag”, the lady asked, “I’m donating them to a nursing home and it would make removing them from the bag easier this way.”
Christina paused for a moment and looked up at the lady. “Sure”, she said with a side smile as she carefully placed the coffee makers in the bag.
“Thank you young lady,” the women said, “You were very helpful and patient.”
“Do you need someone to help you with your carts?”
“Yes”, replied the lady, “that would be great! Thank you.”
Christina called for someone to assist the lady with her carts.
“Thank you, have a nice day.” said Christina, as the lady was walking to the door.
“Thank you, dear,” the lady replied, “You do the same.”
Christina smiled as she watched the lady leave. She felt bad about prejudging her and thought that it was nice of her to donate the coffee makers to the nursing home. “I spent all day thinking about the selfish people in this world that I forgot about the unselfish ones.”
She looked at her watch and smiled because her shift had finally ended. “I guess it was a good thing that I rang up that lady’s two carts of merchandise,” she thought, “It made those last thirty minutes go by fast.”
Christina clocked out and went home.
