A bedtime story I told my daughter.

Long time ago, all the birds could fly as high as they wanted.   One day, the chicken and the duck started arguing with each other.  Each of them claimed to be the most beautiful bird in the world.
The chicken said, “I am the most beautiful bird in the world!”
The duck said, “No way, I am the most beautiful bird in the world!”
Finally, both of them decided to have a beauty contest and invited all the creatures in the land to judge.   Upon hearing this, the peacock decided to join the contest.  At that time, the peacock feathers were all white.
It was the night before the competition.  The chicken did not like the peacock and decided to do something about it and so did the duck.  While the peacock was asleep, the chicken threw purple paint on the peacock and the duck threw yellow paint on the peacock.  When the peacock woke up the next morning her feathers were no longer white but was all stained.
As the competition was about the start, Mother Nature came along to check on the commotion and was not happy.  She punished the three birds for being vain; from that day, all three birds could no longer fly.    She also knew what had happened to the peacock and helped her by changing the paint on the feathers into a beautiful design and thus became truly the most beautiful bird in the world at the time.
