A short story about a priest who begins to doubt himself and his religion, because of one little boy.

As I look into the sky, I see him, Jesus. I look down and hang my head, have I really sunk this low, to not believe in what I teach. My name is Darryl and I am a priest. I have been giving sermons and teaching the good word for many years. Recently I have begun to question myself,  began to question all of it. I slowly turned and went back into the church that I semi-reside in. I say semi-reside because of the fact that my house is built on the back end of the church.

Anyway my life is in shambles all because of that little kid who came by with all those questions that I couldn’t seem to answer  but with the same statement. He asked something like, “So how come the church believes in creationism, but won’t consider that God created evolution?”

And the answer always was, “Because of faith in the good word, my son.” The more I said it, the more it ran passed my lips the more insane I felt. Who was that kid and why did he come to me with such grueling questions. We sat in my office for three hours with me repeating the same stuff over and over again. The boy stood up exclaimed that I was no help and that I just repeated myself, after that was when I really felt betrayed, and not by God but by faith. By a faith I no longer thought existed, and all this was just spiraling downward onto my once noble brow.

I slowly put the little soft red devil doll the kid left behind, on the alter, and began to pray about everything, asking God to take charge and complete my thoughts with his and to save me from the dark side. Then it struck me like a bat to the side of the head, I was going insane with my doubts. I stood up and breathed in deeply I wouldn’t let that kid or science get the best of my faith. I left the devil doll on the alter and began to walk towards the back door to my house when i heard whispering.

I turned to see nothing at first, then a glowing purple light shot up from the alter where the doll was placed. I hid behind my podium as a purple demon-like creature stood there stretching and cracking his spine. It turned in my direction and picked up the doll. Slowly it strolled towards me and beckoned me to come forth. I did not move, instead I prayed, and I did so aloud. “Shut Up,” the creature yelled at me. I opened my eyes to see him staring at me smiling with green razor sharp teeth, his teeth had black goo all around them it was disgusting but I dare not say a word. Instead I got up to run but as I turned I ran right into it. “Where do you think your going?” The creature asked but I could only stand there frozen. This was it the end, and then everything went black.
