Nissa decides to give Fred an answer to his question.
Nissa stood in the shopping center with Fred. He had just asked her if she was sure that she wanted to move away, but she felt as if she could not give him an answer. She wanted simply to leave the institution and to find another job, but was moving away really the right answer?
Nissa said, “You know, I don’t think I’m ready to answer that.” Fred said, “That’s okay, you don’t have to be ready to do anything.” Nissa said, “But I do want to look into it. I want to discuss the possibilities of what would happen if I moved away. I want to decide whether or not it would be a good thing or a bad thing.” Fred asked, “But how do you know whether or not it will be a good choice if you didn’t do it yet?” Nissa said, “It’s like one of those comparing and contrasting diagrams.” Suddenly Fred felt very confused. He didn’t understand diagrams.
She said, “Don’t worry. All we have to do is talk about the good aspects of moving away and the bad aspects of moving away.” Fred said, “Oh, I see now. I get it.” He asked, “So, which ones do you want to discuss first?” She said, “Well, let’s start with the positive aspects. After all, if there is nothing positive to discuss, then I guess we don’t even need to have this conversation in the first place.”
Fred said, “Well, the good things about you moving away would be that you don’t have to be at the institution anymore, you don’t have to worry about those crazy people starting rumors about you, and no one will think that you are a failure because you will be off doing you’re own thing.” She said, “Yes, and I can finally learn more and become a better teacher.” Fred added, “But the negative things about you moving away would be that all of your friends will still be here, if you start your own business over there, no one will know you, and you may not like it over there.” Nissa said, “Yeah, I could find myself in an even worse situation than before.” She tried to think about both the good things and the bad things so that she could make a better decision about what she was going to do.
